Power over Ethernet, or PoE, is an easy and inexpensive way of providing power to network devices using a single Ethernet cable for both power and data.
Different types of PoE
The Evoko Liso is IEEE 802.3af compatible, meaning it uses what is called 'active' PoE. There is also a newer PoE standard, called IEEE 802.3at or commonly PoE+, which is backwards compatible. Thus, the Liso can be safely connected to a 802.3at PoE+ power source.
Power consumption
While 802.3af allows for up to 15.4 watts per device, power consumption for an Evoko Liso in normal operation is usually around 5-8 watts.
What do I need to get started with PoE?
IEEE 802.3af-compatible switches are commonly available. There are also small devices called PoE injectors, which work just as well.
There is no need for special cabling, provided you are using cat5 or higher cables of high quality. CCA cabling is not recommended for PoE applications.
Please consult a network technician for further technical questions about PoE implementation.
We are not able to use PoE in our environment
The Liso can also use a power adapter. Please contact us for more information.
